Why do these contracts matter?

The Detroit City Charter (voted in by Detroiters) mandates the Board of Police Commissioner’s authority over of the Detroit Police Department.

Police union contracts (NOT voted in by Detroiters) in many ways undermine the will of Detroiters by limiting the Charter-mandated authority of the BOPC.

What can you do?

Advocate to Detroit Mayor Mary Sheffield and Detroit City Council to ensure the new contracts comply with the Charter.
